My 3 year old daughter has snored for a long time.. Even when she doesn’t have a cold she snores – and she sometimes snores when she is not quite asleep (ie when she is in bed ready to fall asleep). Other people have commented on this when they have babysat or when she has been asleep in her pram during the day. She even breathes loudly through her mouth sometimes if she is sitting and concentrating on something.
She also has what I think is sleep apnoea – she stops breathing for up to 10 secs then takes a big gasp in and then starts snoring again.
She isn’t sleepy during the day but she rarely goes through the night without waking at least twice.
I have been to the doctors twice about this and they have checked her tonsils and looked at her adenoids but say they are normal – and they wouldn’t take either of these out unless she gets recurring ear infections (which she doesn’t)
i dont want her to have an unnecessary operation but ive heard that continuous snoring / sleep apnoea can cause heart problems..
Probably just being an anxious mum but has anyone got a similar problem?
Thanks
just for info – my daughter is not overweight at all, she has a really good diet – 3 proper meals a day with loads of fruit inbetween.
thanks very much for your answers – i checked my daughters tonsils last night and they were huge! Went to doctors today and he saw them and said they were enourmous but not infected – so its not tonsillitus – so we are being referred to an ENT specialist – thanks again
